Christmas dinner, a real "Babette's" feast

Christmas dinner was a feast to remember, sushi with eel, salmon, avocado, shrimp and more, put together by a cast of wonderful friends which included Noor and Iman young chefs to keep your eye on in the future. An amazing chicken olive tagine and Moroccan bread made by momma Sanae one of the finest chefs originally from Fes Morocco. Also on the menu were beef brochettes, and Thai Som Tum salad and last but hardly least a honey cake with honey cream cheese frosting and homemade pistachio ice cream from the famous Jenny's ice cream cook book made by Eva and Hannah plus a plate of wonderful Christmas confections made by yet again the wonderful duo, Iman and Noor. A few days ago I went for a walk with my camera and a lense cap smeared with vaseline along the edges, I was up for some experimentation, and I loved the results, always something new to learn and experiment with. And the extreme beauty of the world around us and its Creator always invites us in to enjoy it and reflect it back in new ways.

On a beautiful fall day Matt and Val spoke their vows to one another and signed their names together in a book at the front of the church a tradition long observed throughout the years at Liberty Presbyterian church in the countryside of Powell, Ohio. With a Bagpiper leading the way the stunning bride joined her husband to be at the front of the church. Thanks Matt and Val for an amazing day . Here's a sneak peek!

Gwen and Sam tied the knot and it was quite the celebration! Surrounded by friends and family that REALLY knew how to celebrate! Love was in the air ! Ceremony was at the beautiful First Congregational downtown Columbus and the elegant reception was held next door at the the Amazing newly renovated Columbus museum of Art . Congratulations Gwen and Sam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently visited the modern art museum in Amsterdam. The building itself is under renovation, so technically it is housing a limited exhibit, but no one noticed, it felt like a full house. One room I especially enjoyed was the book store. It was a well stocked book store. One book stole my attention, it was one called
" Intervention art" . Somewhat like street art, it takes one pleasantly by surprised. For instance one of the pictures was of a side street in a busy city and strung between the two building ( that were close together) was a minature clothes line with tiny clothes hanging from it. Or another example might be a building that has a brick missing and in the hole is a minature city, or living room , like you've just come across another minature world admist your own. Or a large statue of a man with one arm held out that is famous in a particular city and some one had tied a swing to the arm and is enjoying a good swing.

Well I took a small go at it a few days ago. I came across a pile of old books that were set by the side of the street here in Amsterdam, waiting for trash day. I was particularly interested in the smallest one. It was of course all in Dutch and given to a child in 1943, right during the war torn years here in Holland. I took it with me and you can observe the rest.

I really enjoyed creating this picture! One morning I told my husband, I'm off on a cookie run!" to look for all the amazing varieties of Dutch tea cookies, they truly are unending and wonderful to taste too. here's just a sampler! I chose my daughter Brooke's kitchen table as the background, stood up on the table and shot down. Now off looking for the next photo challenge!

Afternoon tea at the home of Brookes and now my lovely friend too in Amsterdam. Lovely cups of tea and beauty all around!

I ventured out into the neighborhood in our daughter's neighborhood and sat observed some park regulars, birds an this lovely elderly woman. The birds had made her famous.

My husband and I are visiting our daughter in Amsterdam and saw this as we sat in a cafe enjoying the sun, it has been rainy and cold, but this day we enjoyed a bit of sun and cold. Rocket spire.................

I have a friend who is from an African country. She was recounting to me how her father had just finished paying off the bride price or dowry of his wife, her mother. They had been married over 30 years.

As I took engagement pictures recently of Matt and Valarie I saw a wonderful spark in their relationship. A spark that could last a 150 goat payment over 30 years if need be. Congrats Valarie and Matt! Here's too a long wonderful life together!

I'm launching into fun aside in my business. I have a wonderful realtor friend who has used me to take pictures of the interiors of homes she will be selling. I had never thought of this before and am finding I really enjoy it!

My daughter Brooke and I once played around with the idea of a redesign business having trusting friends let us practice on their homes, taking the contents of their homes and surprising them with a whole new look. We also were interested in staging homes to sell etc. So now I can enjoy my love of photography, plus enjoy going into great homes and making the photos speak for the attractiveness of the home!!! Perfect! Weddings, engagement pictures and Senior portraits plus now d. Christensen photography will be photographing the rooms in homes that have come on the market and will hopefully draw a would be buyer to that home! Voila!

Wedding extraordinaire in the woods

My niece Laura lovely ( her endearing nickname by her 6 aunts on her mother's side and others) got married in the woods last weekend. It was staged at her family's cottage. It was like no other, simply wonderful. Many arrived early to help in the preparations way up in Michigan in the UP ( Upper Peninsula ). As the saying goes," many hands make light work" and this event was no exception. Her gifted Aunt Lark orchestrated the event like a grand maestro, gourmet spread, beautifully laid out table with china and all. As her new mother in law said, it was like an Arabian, 1000 and one nights, true splendor, and all accomplished deep in the woods.
Enjoy a brief glimpse into a wonderful joy filled weekend. Congratulations Laura and Peter!!!

I get to work with wonderfully special people. Recently Jimmy and Amanda tied the knot. I could not help notice their deep love for one another. The kind that has grown from a friendship, that has deep roots. Jimmy could not keep his eyes off Amanda. The camera, did not deter him!
The tender moments with her father before having to nervously walk the aisle with eyes all on her, were..... priceless.

Thought it was time to post a few more pics from the Swiss and Amsterdam trip to see Brooke, Nathan and Tanya once again my eyes were rewarded with wonderful findings that reflect the wonderful cultures and daily lives of the people ( the lovely couple were very kind to let me shoot away at their rainy day picnic). I Also had fun capturing the things people ride! ( some ride in more class than others!!)The last two were of course from the Netherlands, the unique city of Harlem to be exact. Enjoy!

Time in Switzerland and The Netherlands with our kids, Nathan and Tanya and Brooke, was super special, it was very cold, but that did not stop us. walked and walked and walked ( there's a hole in my boot!)
This one caught my eye as Tanya and Sophie walk the wall on beautiful Lake Geneva. plus joy under umbrellas and imprints of Amsterdam and of course, The one and only alpes, view from the kids upstairs apartment. Truly wonderful traveling and seeing the world, am so great filled! Better yet, seeing the kids , their wonderful friends, all well and Happy, yes and Amen

Winter weddings have become my favorite. Matt and Jamie got married in Marysville last weekend. A few months ago together Jamie and I spotted this barn on the way to check out the receptions place . This quote has been on my mind this week, this would be my desire with those special photo's that stand out to me as I work the long hours on a wedding, editing, enhancing, weaving a story that depicts the couples party of all parties, their wedding. As I reviewed the getting ready photos of Joelle's wedding, I stopped at these enjoying the beauty of a bride to be and her onlooking young admirer. This was only the second time I had the privilege of taking getting ready shots in a home setting. It's the best... so real , the dishes, the homey wonderful clutter of life, and best of all children being a part and so at home.
So here they are, let them touch your heart in some way and in the future may my photos perhaps change you for having seen it, maybe someday I will accomplish it all.

Went to the Franklin Conservatory Yesterday with friend and daughter in law and fellow artist Tanya, supposedly to catch the butterfly exhibit, but we got a bit side tracked! with all the beautiful textures, Oh Glory in Green!!! We never got out of the one room, spent 2 !/2 hours reveling in the beauty...... and chasing a blue butterfly that unaware led us in this adventure

Fresh snowfall was an invitation for imagination play, dinner in the snow, brings back memories of snow pudding(tasted rather like Elmers glue from my recollections, but so be it, it was fun concocting it stirring it adding a bit more vanilla, a little more snow ....and then offering it to the dog!

So out I went on the coldest day of winter accompanied by my camera , mom's china and silver and the freshest of snow.

Senior picture session with neighbor and friend was a "baventure" as we say in our family. This picture was taken in one of our upstairs room. Eva our daughter had created a wonderful magical drawing on the wall, perfect backdrop for a unique artsy Renae.

At dusk tonight I went cross country skiing at a nearby park, heavenly. I was the only one there, Kapu our dog and me, it was so quiet tonight. It was either ski, or bring the camera, tonight it was skiing, but I took many pictures in my mind. Tonight it was the beauty of the lights in the park, unnatural harsh light, but against the snow and forests, it was like an invitation, a warm glow in isolated spots across the park. I will come back and try and capture it.

A few days ago, I brought the camera and Kapu along, this time it was with snow boots, leaving the skis behind. I have begun to read a book called "The shape of a pocket" by John Berger. In the beginning he describes Finnish photographer Pentti Sammallahti and his black and white panoramic pictures. Berger comments on the presence of a dog in most of his pictures. I congured up awkward redundant dog pictures in my mind, then I googled the photographer, and ......... such a wonderful surprise!! ahhhhhhhh, wonderful, check him and them out.
With boots, camera and kapu I decided to take some pictures Sammallahti style, such fun, and kapu cooperated, being his dog self. There is this wonderful tree in the park with reddish deer colored leaves that have hung on through the fall and now winter. They are the color of kapu, I wanted the two to meet and perhaps capture a picture or two, Kapu approaches the tree....... and pees on it!
